Terms of Service

Last updated: March 22, 2026 · Effective date: March 22, 2026

1. About arXscope

arXscope is a research discovery tool that helps academics find recent arXiv preprints similar to their work. It is operated by arXscope, Luxembourg, Luxembourg (contact: [email protected]).

By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms.

2. The Service

arXscope allows you to:

  • Upload a PDF to search for similar recent arXiv preprints
  • Browse ranked search results with author contact information
  • Save papers and bookmarks to your account for later reference

Paper content is sourced from arXiv.org. arXscope does not host or own any academic papers. All papers, titles, abstracts, and author information are publicly available on arXiv and are retrieved and displayed under arXiv's terms of use.

3. Accounts

To access saved papers and bookmarks, you must create an account with a verified email address.

You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your login credentials secure
  • All activity that occurs under your account
  • Notifying us immediately at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorised access

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to circumvent rate limits, authentication, or other access controls
  • Scrape, crawl, or bulk-download paper data through the API
  • Use the service to send unsolicited communications to paper authors
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems or another user's account
  • Reverse engineer or decompile the service

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

5. Paper Content and Attribution

All paper metadata displayed by arXscope is sourced from arXiv.org and subject to arXiv's own terms and licenses. Author contact emails are extracted from publicly available arXiv PDFs.

arXscope does not claim ownership of any paper content. If you are an author and wish to have your contact information removed, contact us at [email protected].

6. Uploaded Content

When you upload a PDF, we extract the content to run a search. We do not store the full PDF file. The extracted text is used transiently and is not retained after the search is complete.

You retain all rights to content you upload. By uploading, you confirm you have the right to share the content for this purpose.

7. Availability

We aim to keep arXscope available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The service may be unavailable for maintenance, updates, or reasons outside our control. We are not liable for any loss caused by service unavailability.

8. No Warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that search results are accurate, complete, or suitable for any particular research purpose. arXscope is a discovery aid — not a substitute for your own literature review.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, arXscope is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.

Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim (which, for free users, is zero).

10. Your Data and Privacy

We process your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy. By using the service you acknowledge that you have read and understood it.

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time via Settings → Delete Account.

11. Changes to the Service and Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. For material changes, we will notify you by email at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Continued use of the service after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Luxembourg. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Luxembourg City, without prejudice to your rights as a consumer under applicable EU law.
